All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna (AIIMS Patna) (officially Jayaprakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences) is a medical college and medical research public university based in Patna, Bihar, India.The Institute will operate autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India).Though the foundation stone for the ₹ 350-crore project (2004 estimate) was laid in 2004 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, the project was delayed owing to the power shift at the Centre and its cost has escalated from ₹3.35 billion (US$49 million) to ₹8.5 billion (US$120 million).The AIIMS, Patna, is under construction for more than eight years.  Its foundation was laid by the then vice-president, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, on 3 January 2004. In 2004, Central government decided to set up new AIIMS at Rishikesh, Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar and Raipur The setting up of second AIIMS like institution in Bihar was announced in 2015 Union budget of India. Second AIIMS is likely to come up in Saharsa.
At the UG level the institute offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with a duration period of 5.5 years. The intake capacity of the programme is 100.
Candidates having 60% in 10+2 Scheme/Senior School Certificate Examination or Intermediate Sciences (I.Sc.) or an equivalent examination of a recognised University/Board of any Indian State with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, are considered eligible for the concerned programme.
As per the initiative taken by Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, it has been decided to conduct the competitive Entrance Examination of MBBS-2016 through a Computer Based Test (CBT) [Online]. Therefore all candidates will be required to appear at CBT Online Entrance Examination, which will be conducted by the AIIMS, New Delhi.
Note: Candidates belonging to SC/ST category will be benefited by a 10% of marks relaxation in 12th standard to be considered eligible for the concerned course.
